The announcement by the federal government on April 14, 2014 regarding the Aldergrove border crossing described the planned improvements for cross border travelers including the construction of a full-processing facility and supporting infrastructure for commercial vehicles. The expanded facility will begin construction in the fall of 2014 and is projected for completion in early 2016. This project will improve efficiency for cross border travelers, business and the trucking industry by provide stability and capacity. The upgrades will include two new lanes for commercial truck traffic plus a new commercial inspection facility.

RATIO is a design leader in some of our country’s most important public institutions and facilities with specific experience in highway border crossings. RATIO was commissioned to design the Pacific Highway Border Crossing in time for the opening of EXPO 86 in Vancouver, BC. This is the busiest crossing Western Canada, and a cultural landmark that welcomes thousands as they cross the border for a visit or on their way home. Then, more than 20 years after designing the original crossing, the PWGSC and CBSA engaged us again, to expand the facility to handle a 60% increase in traffic volume. For this project RATIO designed new structures that doubled the capacity of vehicles about to cross the border at peak times.
