Tom Annandale brings a distinct humanity to all of his architectural work. Tom is well known as a design leader and consensus builder. He is also recognized as a mentor and unceasing advocate for architecture and it’s importance in the public realm. Punctuating Tom’s 40+ year career is his leadership, vision and care to preserve BC’s architectural heritage as evidenced through his many hours of service on heritage advisory boards. His commitment can be seen through restorations and adaptive reuse projects including the award-winning architecture on the Stave Falls Visitor Centre and Britannia Mine Museum.
This May, Thomas S. Annandale will be inducted into the prestigious College of Fellows at the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC). Fellowship is bestowed upon members by their peers as recognition of the recipient’s pursuit of excellence and personal contributions to the profession of architecture.
Tom’s expertise in large infrastructure projects is complimented by his work in small-scale, community-centric initiatives. He pioneered a modernist aesthetic to industrial projects that included hydroelectric projects and wastewater treatment facilities across British Columbia. His skill can also be seen in the branch design of many British Columbia Credit Unions and other community facilities. His leadership and vision has directly enriched the physical infrastructure of our communities and the social urban fabric of the Pacific Northwest.
Tom says, “It is an incredible honour to have my work and practise acknowledged by my peers. I have enjoyed a long and rewarding career working with many talented colleagues, professionals and clients who have all contributed to my success and should share in this honour.”
At RATIO, Tom works hard at building trusting, long-standing relationships with clients, many with RATIO for decades. He brings over four decades of design and construction knowledge to his projects. Tom is a principal with RATIO.
