Is it feasible to place a municipality’s new central library away from a street front location?
When the City of Pitt Meadows engaged us to design their new central library, the project proposed some unique challenges, including how to invite local citizens into the new space on the second floor, away from the streetfront. Our design solution features a dynamic sculptural element that guides patrons from the compact entry up the stairs, where an explosion of colour and form and bright open and modern space greet patrons of this newly expanded public library.
The project helped Pitt Meadows realize a number of its goals, including remaining close to the civic centre, occupying a long term lease of a larger private development, stay within their budget and create an inviting and energetic space for the community to use.
