More than 20 years after designing the original crossing, our clients engaged us again, to expand the facility for a 60% increase in traffic volume.
In order to satisfy increasing traffic volumes at British Columbia’s busiest Port of Entry, Ratio designed new structures that doubled the capacity of vehicles about to cross the border at peak times. For the Border Service Agency, this would serve as a pilot project, with the potential for expansion to other locations.
The design of the addition uses an array of articulated glass panels of varying opacity and incorporates an exposed structure whose geometry recalls that of the existing building while expressing a fresh, new look. The project was designed and delivered in eight months.
